Pain Points Solved
Why framed glass fails on water
| Pain point | Why it happens | How ems-solar solves it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard panels cannot bend | Framed glass modules sit flat; boat cabins and RV roofs are curved | Flexible ETFE panels with ≥0.3 m bend radius follow the deck without mounting frames |
| Weight destabilizes the boat | A 22–27 kg framed module adds top-heavy mass | Flexible builds weigh 2–5 kg — up to 90% deadload reduction for the same area |
| Salt air corrodes everything | Marine environments attack frames, junction boxes and connectors | IEC 61701 salt-mist rating with corrosion-resistant J-box and connector options |
| Old flexibles died young | Heat build-up under dark surfaces degraded cells and adhesives | ETFE frontsheet plus heat-dissipating backsheet keeps cells under 85 °C with 25-yr UV stability |

Marine & RV FAQ
Questions from boatyards and OEM builders
How much curvature can a flexible panel handle?
The design bend radius is ≥0.3 m — enough for typical cabin tops, coach roofs and curved transoms. Flatter surfaces get full contact adhesion; tighter curves use a segmented layout, and our engineering team validates the radius against your deck drawing before production.
Will salt water kill it?
The build carries IEC 61701 salt-mist qualification, and the junction box and connectors are specified for marine exposure. Rinse-down maintenance still helps, but the panel itself is rated for the spray zone, not just the cabin.
Why did my old flexible panel fail?
Most early flexibles overheated: dark cells under a sealed frontsheet cooked themselves and the adhesive. Our ETFE frontsheet and heat-dissipating backsheet keep cells under 85 °C, and the frontsheet is UV-stable for 25 years — the two failure modes are engineered out.
Can you make custom shapes for our boat line?
Yes — custom sizes from 300×300 to 2000×1000 mm with grommets, cable exits and color options, at a 500-pc MOQ. Send a DXF or template and we return a panel layout with connectors positioned for your harness.
